Quote: "NEW INSTRUCTIONS FOR BUILDING T-34. REPLACES INSTRUCTIONS SHOWN ON PLANS: The Sig T-34 is of straight-forward and simple construction compared to many scale airplanes. In the following instructions I will attempt to help you over the more complex building methods. I am sure there are many other ways to accomplish some of the building problems, but if you follow these instructions you will have a sturdy well built T-34.

FUSELAGE CONSTRUCTION:
Lay out both fuselage sides on a flat table. Remember there is a right and a left side. First, glue 1/16 plywood doubler with Sig Epoxy or Sig Bond. The plywood doubler is 1/4 shorter at the nose to allow for the 1/4 firewall which butts against the 1/16 doubler. Add 1/4 sheet wing mount doubler. When fues, sides are dry, trim doubler with a sanding block. Now be sure and cut in stab. incidence shown on plan. Pin fues. sides upside down on your building table with the leading edge forward protruding over table so you can install F1 and F2 using side of the table as leveler for F2; glue in place using Sig Epoxy for fuel proofing. Glue F3A in place; add 3/8 nose doublers. Pull rear of fuselage together adding 1/4 sq cross braces. Add 3/16 center rail to fues. bottom and plank bottom of fuselage. This will hold fuselage rigid while working on top of it. Do not add block forward of wing, as you will need fuselage bottom open to install nose gear mount later.

Remove fuselage from table and glue in upper deck bulk-heads, plank top deck back to F7. Roughly sand planking and sides and arounicorners at bottom of fuselage. Next install nose gear block, drill holes for motor mounts and install blind nuts. Drill hole for tank outlets. It's a good idea to dope or epoxy tank compartment. Next install bottom block and when dry sand to shape. Now is a good time to cut canopy to shape and fit to fuselage. Trim planking with about 1/4 of canopy overlaping planking. Don't install canopy until fuselage is completely finished and painted. Next install cowling mounting block, mount your cowl and sand fuselage to fit, using cowl-ing as a pattern. At this pont lay fuselage aside as tail assembly must be completed before finishing it.

TAIL ASSEMBLY CONSTRUCTION: Start with stab by building 1/4 x 1/2 frame over 1/16 sheet; when dry in-stall top sheeting. Use lots of pins to hold stab down so as not to warp. Sand elevator to shape and install elevator horn with epoxy; sand stab to shape, now install hinges. Elevator and stab should be finished and ready for doping before installing on fuselage. Build up and install elevator torque rod with servo end long enough to install later. Slide torque rod in rear of fuselage and glue stab in place, checking alignment. While drying, rudder and fin may be built up the same as stab and elevator.

Install rudder to fin with 3/32 wire going through stab as per plans. Cut rudder horn fairing out and silver sol-der horn in place. Glue fin in place, also balsa fairing block. In-stall rudder torque rod and glue on rudder horn fairing. Be sure and hollow out tail cone block for elevator horn and install block and sand to shape. Now shape, sand, and glue dorsil fin in place, checking alignment. Wing mounting blocks, instrument panels, and cockpit floor may be installed now..."

    ScaleType: This (oz16125) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beechcraft_T-34_Mentor
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
