DAG 60 (oz16096)
About this Plan
DAG 60 Autogyro. Radio control sport model. Rotor span 78 in, for 60 engine.
Discontinued plan from Whirlybird Aviation. For the archived ( now defunct) whirlybirdaviation.net website, see: https://web.archive.org/web/20171229...
Quote: "The DAG 60 is a larger version of the R2. The DAG 60 is much easier to get your hands into the fuselage. This is the main reason for this design. A 60 size autogyro with a 74” rotor span and 3" cord. This is a beautiful flying autogyo. With the nose pointing into a breeze, this gentle beast can land vertical.
I recommend .60-1.20 size 2cycle or .91-1.20 four stroke for this gyro. I do warn you against using too large of a four stroke. Wieght to power ratio what you need to watch. This is why my highest Four Stroke recommendation is a 1.20.
High torque servos are a must. It is designed with static pitch in mind. So that being said, there are three channels: Roll, Elevator and Rudder"

Very pleased to see the DAG 60 plan added to your collection. In the fall of 2021 while searching for updates on my Richard Harris designed Panther autogyro I came across a much older (2008) Autogyro build by Richard Harris in RC groups. His build was a 1-1/2 times scale up of a DAG 40 hence becoming a DAG 60!The DAG series of Autogyros were designed by David Surace in the USA. The DAG name being derived from Dave's Auto Gyro and the two stroke engine size although most of the ones I have seen have been powered by 4 strokes or electrics.
After seeing you tube videos of this fascinating flying machine I searched for the plans and built one.
Attached are a couple of photos of my model, built from these plans [main pic, 003, 004] which slightly differ from the Richard Harris prototype shown. My color scheme is whimsically based on a Canadair Argus from 415 Squadron which was based in Summerside PEI Canada.
Power is by a Saito 125 four stroke with a Master Airscrew 16-6 prop. Approx weight of model is 11 pounds.
Also a link to a video of mine during the early test flight stages: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzxN9-cw0j8
Thanks for a great website and preserving the old plans.

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
