About this Plan

Zero Mitsubishi Sento. Free flight scale model for rubber power. Wingspan 25 in.

Quote: "Notes for Building Zero: GETTING STARTED: Study plans and instructions care-fully before beginning construction. Tack the drawing to a drawing board or work table and work right on the plan.

BUILDING FUSELAGE: Remove OTT-O-FORMERS from thin wood sheet using a small sharp knife or razor blade, and smooth carefully to avoid uneven edges. Lay OTT-O-TUBE on side view of plan and mark location where OTT-O-FORMERS are to be placed on the tube. Make boom of correct length and cement to end of tube as shown on side view of plan. Slip OTT-O-FORMERS on tube in correct order and cement firmly. Nose cowling is built up of layers of wood ready-cut in heavy wood sheet.

Cement these layers together, putting them under weight until cement is thoroughly hardened, then finish edges to proper shape as shown, with sandpaper. When completed cement cowling in place on tube.

Cement stringers in place in notches in OTT-O-FORM-ERS. Install top, bottom, and side stringers first, then install all stringers on top half of fuselage. Lower string-ers are installed after wing is cemented in place. Ready-cut cockpit canopy formers are next removed from heavy wood sheet and cemented in place.

BUILDING WING: Fasten leading and trailing edges to plan securely with pins in the usual manner. Remove ready-cut wing tips from heavy sheet and fit in place on plan. Cut straight, or lower part of wing ribs from thin strip wood and cement in place on plan between lead-ing and trailing edges. (See typical wing section). Cut spar from heavy strip wood and taper as shown by dotted lines on front view and put in place on plan. Carefully remove ready-cut wing ribs from thin wood sheet with razor blade or sharp knife and cement over lower part of wing ribs which you have already cement-ed in place. Let cement harden thoroughly before re-moving the pins which hold the wing in place on the plan.

Carefully cut spar and leading and trailing edges at point indicated and raise each tip 11/a inches above board to provide the required dihedral. Place small blocks under the tips for support and cement spar and leading and trailing edges where they were cut. When cement in these joints has hardened the wing may be joined to the fuselage..."

Quote: "Steve, I found a kit that I never knew existed and picked it up for a very reasonable price. That kit is the Joe Ott KI-001 Zero Mitsubishi Sento 25in WS (Kit 2709). Since you do not have it on Outerzone I sent some time this week scanning and stitching the plans together. Attached are the plan set, decals and printed wood files. Some of the printed wood lines are a little lite... I have also attached some pictures of the kit and box...
Thanks, Roger"

ScaleType: This (oz16088) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_A6M_Zero
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
