Lockheed 1649 Starliner (oz16087)
About this Plan
Lockheed 1649 Starliner. Free flight scale model for rubber power. Wingspan 36 in.
Direct submission to Outerzone.
Quote: "LOCKHEED 1649 STARLINER 36” span. Drawn 28 MAR 2015.
WING CONSTRUCTION: The wing was constructed using the Rees’ sliced rib construction. Which is covered very well on Mike Stuart's site : https://www.ffscale.co.uk/rees.htm
You’ll find the standard radial nacelle wing and the proposed turboprop nacelles as well. This is a challenging model but has been a favorite of my since I was a kid. I remember building a plastic model in elementary school. Shortly after Columbus reached America.
This model of Lockheed’s Constellation was the longest and didn’t really use the tip tanks but I just had to add them. Most people wouldn’t know this anyway.
FUSELAGE CONSTRUCTION: As is my usual construction method of fuselages, a ladder jig is used. Check out stickandtissue.com for info on ladder jig under the Current Rubber Builds board.
EMPENNAGE: The horizontal tail surface and the three vertical fin/rudders are built as shown on the plan.
This is one of my favorite airplanes and the build of this plan can be found on stickandtissue, it was a while ago so in the earlier posts, see https://www.stickandtissue.com/forum/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1429683808/128

ScaleType: This (oz16087) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_L-1649_Starliner
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.
Corrections? Use the correction form to tell us the new/better ScaleType link we should be using. Thanks.

What a beauty, Tom! I appreciate your plans very much, both for the technical expertise displayed and for the sheer aesthetic quality. In other words, they are too pretty to miss!Miguel - 15/06/2025
Steve, I thought I send you a couple bones shots of the Connie [pics 003, 004] to include with the completed model. Post them if you wish.
Thanks again for all you do with this site.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
