Quote: "Instructions: Study the plan thoroughly so you will become accustomed to the names of the various parts and familiar with the method of construction. With a razor cut all of the parts from the printed balsa sheet. Cement the “A” and “B” parts of the formers together. Place a sheet of wax paper over the plan to prevent the cement form sticking to it and pin in place the top and bottom master stringer. To this cement the half formers. Fasten in place the left side master stringer. Put on the remaining stringers and allow the cement to dry. This completes the LEFT side of the fuselage. Build the right half and join the two together. Sand the entire structure smooth and check that it is in alignment.
The wings are built on the plan using the same wax paper rand pin method described before. Pin in place the spar and over this cement the ribs. Set the leading edge in the nose of the ribs and cement well. Add the trailing edge and build the wing tips. When the cement is dry sand the entire structure smooth. In building the wing be sure and construct the right panel first. This the one drawn on the plan. When the panel is completed turn the plan over and build the left wing panel.
The stabilizer and rudder are built in the same manner as the wing tips.
The landing gear strut can be constructed either of hare balsa or made from a piece of metal cut from a tin can. If the latter method is used cut a sheet slightly larger than the ¾” x 3-3/4” and fold lengthwise. Trim to 3/8” x 3-3/4” and cut along the fold for a distance of 1-1/2”. Pry the two layers apart and form the wheel stirrup. On the op end of the strut cut along the fold about 1/8” and pry the two layers apart to fit rib ‘B’ cement well.
To cover the model it is advisable to use the tissue in strips, covering a small section at a time, stretching the tissue tightly removing all wrinkles as you proceed. Use banana liquid as the adhesive. When the parts are completely covered spray with water from a fly spray and allow to dry. This will make the covering taut. To prevent he wings, rudder and stabilizer from warping it is advisable to pin them to a flat surface before spraying. Attach the wings, rudder and stabilizer making certain they are in alignment. Detail may be added by cutting the license numbers, instrument panel and other decorations from the plan and cement the to the model in their proper positions.
Should the model tend to stall add a bit of weight in the nose (a small piece of solder is recommended for this purpose) or bend the trailing edge of the elevators slightly downward. If it tends to dive add a little weight in the tail or bend the trailing edges of the elevator slightly upward.
This model was built and test flown at our factory and if a little care is taken in this construction, satisfactory results will be obtained."

ScaleType: This (oz16078) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawks_Miller_HM-1
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.
Corrections? Use the correction form to tell us the new/better ScaleType link we should be using. Thanks.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
