About this Plan

Tutor. Free flight sport model for rubber power. Wingspan 13 in.

Quote: "General notes on construction of model. Pin this plan to a flat board and cover with transparent, paper. This prevents those parts which require to be built on plan from sticking to same when glue is applied. Study the plan carefully before starting to build.

Fuselage construction: Fuselage sides are supplied printed on sheet Balsa. Cut to outlines, and sandpaper to a thickness of 1/32. Glue 1/16 x 1/16 uprights in positions printed on inside of fuselage sides, and when set cut back to shaded squares. Cut out Cabin Windows and glue cellophane over the inside. Glue cross-pieces in position, starting with the long pieces and work towards tail and nose. Turn Fuselage over and fit remaining cross-pieces. Fit formers 'C' and 'D' and complete by cementing stringers in position. Cut out Capping Piece to shape of former " C " and cement in place (do not cut out notches).

Nose block is made from 1/8 x 1/8 wood by cementing together the pieces cut out of the centres of the Capping Piece and former 'C' and fixing on to back of Nose Block (see plan).

Cover top and bottom of Fuselage with Balsa sheet (leaving last bay on the underside uncovered) and when cement is dry sandpaper down as thin as possible. Rubber Peg is made from 1/16 x 1/16 wood. Hole for peg is indicated on plan. Complete Fuselage by cementing strip of wood across bottom to prevent rear rubber band from slipping.

Wing construction: Build on plan holding in position by inserting small pins on either side of leading and trailing edge. Cut out ribs and gussets 'G' and fit in position. Build Centre Section as shown on plan and cement wings to same with each wing tip propped up 1 inch and allow to set. Cover top and bottom of Centre Section with sheet Balsa with the grain running across, sandpaper as thin as possible. Fit small pegs for holding wings in position..."

Quote: "Hi, Steve & Mary, Please find attached the plan and photos [main pic, 003, 004] of a model called Tutor. It's 13 inch span & I would guess from the 1960s, possibly a free give-away like the Weetabix Wonderplane. Regards, Simon Rogers."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
