Glidemaster (oz15988)
About this Plan
Glidemaster. Simple hand launch glider model. Wingspan 17 in.
Quote: "A CONSISTENT performer is this 'Glide Master.' Its best time at a recent glider meet was clocked at 155 seconds - and it won the event. Unofficially it has been reported to do still better. Perhaps some of the FA's glider fans will be able to report times just as good.
From the full-size dimensions given, draw outlines of the fuselage stick. Choose 3/64" hard balsa stock and trim it down to the cross section as shown. At the point where the wings are attached to the stick, cut a notch and sand it clean. A slight recession is made at the extreme rear to accommodate the stabilizer.
Draw a full-size pattern outline of the wing using the dimensions provided. Sheet balsa, 1/16 thickness, is sanded and cambered to get the typical section effect illustrated on the plan.
The tail parts are cut to the required shape from 1/32 balsa sheet and streamlined. Cement the stabilizer in place first. Make sure that it lies perfectly horizontal. Next, the rudder is attached at right angles to the stabilizer.
Glue one wing panel in place at the time. Use a pin or two to hold it steady. Get the correct dihedral in while the cement dries. The remaining panel is next cemented in a likewise manner and is followed by placing a generous glue skin around the center section both above and below. To insure added strength, cement small strips of balsa 1/8 by 3/16 by the required chord length, right between the underside of the wing where it joins the fuselage. Sand to a concave fillet form and coat it with cement.
In making your glider polish, add three or four drops of castor oil to every ounce of banana oil. Apply the well-stirred mixture to the surfaces with a soft brush. Sand lightly between three applications of the polish.
Add modeling clay to the nose for balance. Test flights will determine which way the ship has a natural tendency to turn. A tight left circle can be worked in by warping the left trailing edge slightly. A point to remember is that when using modeling clay, always keep its shape streamlined."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
