About this Plan
Republic F84 E/G. Free flight scale model. For rubber power with tractor prop layout. Wingspan 35 in.
Direct submission to Outerzone.
Quote: "Steve and Mary, I was reviewing my plans from many years back (April 2012 to be exact). I found my Republic F-84E/G 35 inch span. I have always loved the Jets of the 40's and 50's. This model was built using reed to make the fuselage formers with 1/16" sq reinforcements. This was the first time I tried this on a model of this size. I made templates of foam board from the Dollar Store that comes in 2'x4' sheet. You can make a lot of templates from that size sheet.
After the former patterns were cut out of the plan and glued to the foam board using gluestick. I soaked the reed (which I got from Amazon, it comes in rolls of approximately 1/16 diameter a hundred feet or so in length) in water overnight. This makes the reed very flexible, I then wrapped it around the templates and overlapped the ends and taped the ends tight to the template. Once dry I used the cross lines on the template to mark the former"s location on the ladder jig. I made from 1/2"x36" to form the outside of the ladder with 3/32"x1/2" slats of the ladder. Then I mark on the slats the thrust line from the plans.
Once all the reed formers are mounted on the ladder in the correct positions, I placed the 1/32"x1/16" horizontal , dorsal and ventral spines in place to hold the reeds in place as the remaining stringers are placed. I like to use 1/32"x1/16" stringers 1/8" apart to keep the rounded shape of the fuselage (Koutny style). With the ladder jig I add the stringers opposite each, first one side then on the other side.
Once the stringers are mounted I use a small brush to loosen the Duco used to mount the reeds to the slats and remove them before all the ventral and dorsal stringers are in place.
The wings are maded using the cracked rib style wings. I used 1/16" sq ribs placing the bottom of the ribs in place between the leading edge and the trailing edge. Once these are in place I lay down the spar of 1/16" tappered to 3/32" at the tips. Then the top of the ribs are added by starting at the trailing edge and cementing this in place I then gently press down on the upper rib causing the rib to crack over the spar. Once this is done I glue the front of the rib to the leading edge. I then go back to place a drop of thin super glue on the cracked part of the rib. I doesn't take much or you'll have a very hard knot to sand off so you don't poke holes in the tissue when you're ready to cover.
The vertical fin and rudder and the horizontal stab are make of 3/32" balsa as spelled out on the plan.
There are many colorful schemes for these aircraft so have at it and post your build please.

Thanks for wading through this build description.

ScaleType: This (oz15980) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_F-84_Thunderjet
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
