Introduction: Way back in the early days of QFI (Issues 4,5,6 and 7), the late Dave Jones did a series of articles on model and wing design. Using this information I designed a small slope soarer with a curved leading edge called Mini Etsi Getsi and the plan featured in the January 1997 issue of QFI (Issue 24).
Several years Later, I was experimenting with T-tails and came up with a nice strong, light method to build them, I eventually drifted back to 'Vs', but my recent acquisition of a Ripmax Evolution has rekindled my interest in 'T's, As a result. I resurrected a follow-on design to Mini Etsi Getsi that uses the same wing but this time sports a T-tail.
I usually fly EPP on the slopes now and I find it quite refreshing to fly a sleek little glider (just have to remember to steer clear of any combat sessions!). I am so pleased with this design that I thought I would share it with you. If you already have a Mini Etsi Getsi wing, then how about a new fuz? It would be compatible.
Want to build one? The model is built mainly of medium balsa and Liteply with a small amount of glass/carbon fibre/epoxy added in certain areas for strength. This is not essential though and could be substituted for spruce/ply or similar if preferred. The following details should give you an idea of what is involved in building one. The quickest and easiest way to build is in the following order: Wing jig; Wing; Tailplane; Fuselage. So, let's get going!
Wings :The first job is to cut out the ribs and wing jig formers. If you can get hold of lithoplate (a very thin aluminium sheet available from printers), stick the rib and former part. of the plan onto the lithoplate and simply cut out with scissors. Then use these templates to cut out two sets of ribs and formers.
Build the jig by gluing the formers for the whole wing onto two sheets of 15 mm MDF board (one for the top and one for the bottom), using the plan as a guide to get the spacing right... "

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
