Quote: "KIT D103. Andercraft Prion. Building Instructions:
The Prion (Afrikaans: Walvisvoel) is named for a species of sea bird which is found from the Prince Edward Islands, to as far as the Natal coast. There are several distinct types but all are sea birds, some with broad bills, others with much smaller beaks. Sub types range from the Broadbilled Prion to the Fairy Prion , the smallest in the region. While most are grey and white, the same the same does not have to apply to this model! Accordingly, the model may be coloured as bright as can be!
Like its namesake, you will find this model an excellent flyer, suitable for the beginner and expert alike. Please follow the instructions and you should encounter few problems, even if this is your first model. Before starting to build the kit, read the instructions, identifying the parts as described.
To build this model, you will require a FLAT building board, at least as large as the plan, able to have pins driven into the surface or have sufficient, suitable weights to hold the parts in place while they are being glued together. Cover the plan with plastic wrap to prevent the parts sticking to it.
To assemble the kit, use either balsa cement, pre-cementing all joints first, or alaphatic resin glue. Pre-cementing means that the glue is first applied to all end grain surfaces, allowed to dry, penetrating the grain, then applying a second coat before .glueing in place. This is essential on all vertical and 'cross spacers. Cyano, while the fastest and lightest is not recommended for beginners. Whichever glue is used, always use the minimum needed for a good join, to keep weight dawn. To avoid. loss of parts only cut out those as required, except for the wing ribs, which will be dealt with later.
FUSELAGE: Select eight 2.5 x 2.5 strips of equal stiffness for thefour longerons which form the basic structure. Eight are required as the longerons require to be spliced or joined where shown on the plan. While the precise splice line is not critical, that general area should be adhered to as the longerons are not in tension there. Pin the upper and lower longerons down on plan with pins on either side of the strips NOT THROUGH THEM, splicing as required. For the accurate placing of pins along the straight lines, a hacksaw blade may be placed over plan, with pins placed against the straight side, ensuring they are accurately placed.
Glue sections of 12.5 X 2.5 in position at the nose and motor mount position, sanding carefully to ensure a good fit. Make gussets from 12.5 X 2.5 strip and glue in place checking grain direction as shown, alter 2.5 X 2.5 uprights are in position. Wing mount and tallposts are made from 5 X 2.5 as shown. Note that the uprights after the wing position are cut from 2.5 X 1.5 strip. Cut these vertical and diagonal spacers slightly overlength, then sand down to a perfect fit, an emery fingernail board being ideal for this purpose. Add gussets where shown..."

Checking through this, there are some issues with the parts. The printwood file here includes parts from three different models ie D102, D103, D105. But the parts for D103 are incomplete. No wing ribs shown for D103. Have tagged this plan as formers_incomplete for now. Does anyone out there have a better scan of the printwood for this kit? Thanks.SteveWMD - 02/04/2025
The ribs are incorrect. I have a NIB kit that I will scan. I will also scan the building instructions.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
