About this Plan
Start. Control line sport trainer model. Wingspan 680 mm for 1.5 cc engine.
Quote (google-translated): "Building Instructions
The Start model is intended for beginning modelers who have no experience yet. It is intended to enable them to independently overcome the difficulties of their first steps with tethered models: to learn how to safely control the model during take-off, in level flight (which is not as easy as it seems), when landing and in some basic flight maneuvers.
Not every model survives basic training unscathed. The Start is designed with this fact in mind; it is built from easily available materials and its construction costs are low. The main materials used are plywood, spruce strips and polystyrene foam. For financial reasons, the model is powered by a cheap, low-cost self-ignition engine with a displacement of 1.5 cm3. It flies on control cables only 10 to 12 m long, so a smaller flight area is sufficient. The model is easy and fast to build, as there is no need to coat or varnish the Start with a primer. If we do not paint or spray paint it, which is not necessary, it can be built in a regular flat panel tower.
The model is designed without balsa, because it is still in short supply, but its use would be a waste of imported material. However, the tail surfaces and wing can of course be made of it. On the other hand, the plywood on the tail surfaces and the polystyrene on the wing can be replaced with smooth cardboard with a corrugated core, without affecting the properties of the model. The less common shapes of the model, reminiscent of a historical aircraft, are given by the purpose of the construction and partly by conscious effort.
Before starting construction, we study the construction drawing with the instructions and, according to our material options, we decide on one of the wing and tail surface variants. The list of materials applies to the main variant of the model, drawn in the drawing. The amount of material needed for other variants is determined by the text of the instructions and the drawing.
The principle is that we cut straight and perpendicularly, we immediately sand and sand the individual wooden details with fine sandpaper. We work carefully and precisely so that the entire model is symmetrical and not collapsed. The work will be facilitated by clamps (clothespins) and thin nails or pins, with which we secure some parts in the necessary position until the glue dries. We will use Hercules, Dispercoll, or two-component epoxy glue for gluing.
Fuselage. On plywood, we carefully trace (through carbon paper) the shape of the front part T1, partitions T4 and T5 and sidewalls T3, cut them out exactly with a jigsaw and sand around the perimeter. Drill all the necessary holes in the front part T1; first mark their location according to the holes in the engine feet and the finished wire (holes for sewing) or sheet metal (holes for screwing) chassis.
Glue and secure the slats of the tail beam T2 to the part T1, which we glue together at the end. On both sides of the front part, glue the side panels T3 (secure the screws), between them the partitions (4 and and the pins T6 into the holes. Glue the finished tail surfaces to the tail beam T2: horizontal V1 with elevator V2 from above, vertical S1 and spur P3 on the inside of the left strip. Sand and smooth out any unevenness: and paint the entire fuselage with tail surfaces with clear nitro varnish (zapon); separately paint the entire front part up to the partition T4 (engine and tank compartment).
We cut the tail surfaces out of straight, untwisted plywood. We attach the elevator V2 to the stabilizer V1 with pairs of strips of nylon fabric or thin tailor's fabric, which we glue..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
