About this Plan

Caudron 460. Radio control scale model, for electric power with brushless motor. Wingspan 80 cm.

Note for the original posting on the Jivaro-models site, including detailed build notes and lots of excellent pics, see: https://jivaro-models.org/caudron_460_mathieu/page_caudron460.htm

Quote (google-translated): "Tame a legend! Caudron 460, by Mathieu Travani.

No aviation enthusiast can remain indifferent to the purity and finesse of the lines of Caudron aircraft, even less to those of the C.460 which is for me the most beautiful and accomplished of racing aircraft. Caudrons of all types naturally have a certain success with modelers but small-scale reproductions are rare and this is what pushed me to design a small model, easy to build, fly and transport.

The C.460 like all racing Caudrons has a particular geometry with a wingspan identical to its length, resulting in a very long fuselage (a guarantee of stability and precision), voluminous (practical for fitting equipment) and a tapered wing with a small surface area (this is where things get complicated).

Design: The goal was to design an 'easy' plane, both to build and to fly. That's good, the C.460 has simple shapes! The fuselage is built around a 3 mm depron 'body' entirely covered in wood, which provides exemplary rigidity for a contained weight. This construction method also allows the shapes of the original to be faithfully and quickly reproduced and the finishing can be done simply with heat-shrink film, a guarantee of solidity and durability!

For the wings (tiny) same logic, keep it simple! In order to guarantee good flight qualities, the profile is an Eppler 193, it is a safe bet with a relative thickness of 10% and a flat or almost flat intrados. The wings are built on the intrados formwork; in this way, it is impossible to mess up and you quickly obtain very light and sufficiently rigid wings..."

    ScaleType: This (oz15879) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caudron_C.460
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
