About this Plan

Trident V. Control line team racer model.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "Hi Outerzone team, Here's a plan I drew up in 2012 based on a scaled down drawing published in the July 1967 issue of Aeromodeller - Trident V by Dave Balch.

The plan is traced from the original drawing, scaled to full size and given assumed construction details suitable for Classic Team Race use. I have built one to this plan and use it in Classic A and Classic FAI team racing in New Zealand.

The original model was one of a series designed and flown by Wind Tunnel engineer, Dave Balch with some success in UK racing circles. The model originally had an MVVS 2.5 diesel engine, which was later replaced by an Oliver Tiger. My example has been very successful with a 1970s MVVS D7 2.5cc diesel. The original model weighed about 660 grams, mine is about 560 grams.

Attached are some pictures of mine and the original model, along with the published drawing and my CAD PDF. Cheers from Auckland, New Zealand. Adrian Hamilton"

Your description says "speed model", but it's actually a "team racer", as described in the original magazine text.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
