The Pzazz was originally designed as an entry level 60in Pylon Racer. To encourage modellers to have a go at this then new slope racing class. The only equipment could be found in most modellers spares box i.e. 2 standard servos, a square AA Rx battery and any serviceable receiver. Construction consist of a simple foam veneer wing and slab-sided balsa ply fuselage. The Pzazz is relatively quick for a sport slope soarer and capable of most aerobatic manoeuvres and quite forgiving if the turns are over-cooked!

Quote: "For those of you who read the August '94 Radio Control Model World (all we trust!) you will remember that Steve Vine has already reviewed one of Phoenix Model Products' aircraft, the Wingbat. Now the saga continues with the introduction of PMP's Pzazz.

Stan Yeo, who is the proprietor of Phoenix Model Products (PMP) is still visiting our slopes demonstrating his prototypes and the rest of his vast range of models. This time he arrived with a sixty inch class pylon racer called Pzazz.

Our club the White Sheet Radio Flying Club (WSRFC) has just converted its club pylon race to the sixty inch class and every-one is heartily convinced that this is the way to go.

Here, the Pzazz fits the bill perfectly - ie under £40 and very easy to build. As usual, his model got handed around like a packet of fags. (only we don't smoke any more do we?) Any way I had several exciting flights with the Pzazz including a spot of racing with my mate Bob where I declared difficulty in using Stan's transmitter. (A good ploy this which you may like to remember for the future!) After building four of PMP's models, it may appear that I'm a soft touch for good reviews but it's a good job for Stan that he's a clever designer! In fact it seems to me that he uses the same successful formula in different combinations to arrive at any chosen result.

The Kit: The usual plain brown box which Stan uses means that the cost of the kit is inside the box rather than in the shiny advertising on the outside. Inside the box, after removing the transit packing, was the excellent rolled plan which I've grown accustomed to with previous PMP models. Then came all the goodies: die cut fuselage sides with nice clean cuts, other ply parts such as bulkheads etc, which were either die cut or bandsawn and were faultless. All the balsa stripwood and triangular fillets were true and of the correct density for the job; although one of the ailerons was a little wavy, it was easily put right at the finishing stage. The tailplane is already sawn to shape and is cut from good, light and stiff balsa. All the rest of the balsa was there - fuselage top and bottom, wing tips, even the balsa fillets for the top of the wing were sawn to airfoil section. In fact so much of the initial balsa preparation is done for you, it must save hours of work.

That just leaves the bags of goodies. What more can I say? It's all there - two different size wing bandages to taper the load at the centre of the wing, all the clevises and solder adapters, kitchen sink (with taps!!) All you need is there except glue and covering.

Building: After building a number of PMP models, the lack of comprehensive building instructions (ie stick A to B and B to C etc) is not a problem, in fact, it never was a problem! (even for me!) There are building and flying notes on a four page pamphlet concerned with the complete range of PMP models and specific notes to the Pzazz on the drawing. The model is so simple to build..."
