About this Plan

Waco Custom. Free flight scale model for rubber power.

Planfile includes full build instructions

Quote: "Before Starting Work: Study plans before starting work. Gently press the die-cut parts from the balsa sheets. See notching directions on back of plan. Pin plan to workboard and cover with transparent wax paper to prevent frames from sticking to plan during construction. Use modelers' knife to cut balsa strips.

Step one: Fuselage Construction: Cut and pin longerons over side frame layout. Cut and fit uprights in place. Cut and fit diagonals in place. Cement frame together - place cement in each corner. Cut and cement balsa pieces F-, F-2 and F-3 to fuselage side frame. When dry, build a second side frame directly over the first. Spread a coat of cement over rear face of tailposts. When dry, lift frames frow plan and split apart except at tail posts .

Step two: Fuselage Construction Continued: Cut out all formers from balsa print. Cement top and bottom formers in place between side frames. Work from nose towards the tail - start with F-4 and F-5. Add cross members and internal cross struts. Add the top stringers. Then bottom stringers and finally the side stringers. Carve nose block to shape and cement to nose of the fuselage,

Step three: Wing Construction: Pin center spar to plan. Cement and pin ribs over spar. Add leading and trailing edges. Add wing tip pieces TW-5 to TW-9. Use small blocks and bring tip up to center spar. Build the right top wing over right top wing layout. Build the left and right bottom wings over proper layouts in same way.

Step four: Rudder Construction: cement and pin R-1, R-2, R-3, R-4 and R-5 together over rudder layout. Add center spar. Leading and trailing edges. Add rib members..."

    ScaleType: This (oz15754) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waco_Custom_Cabin_series
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.
    Corrections? Use the correction form to tell us the new/better ScaleType link we should be using. Thanks.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
