Privateer II (oz15731)
About this Plan
Privateer II. Free flight power model.
Direct submission to Outerzone.
Hello Steve & Mary, There are several designs named 'Privateer' on Outerzone. Here is a scan of my own copy of the M.S. Privateer II (span 53", length 39").
The Model Shop in Barras Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne, was the first of its kind in the U.K., opening in 1924. The model was designed in 1938 by the proprietor Charles Lutman, and drawn by Tommy Kennedy. This plan was traced by Terry King in 1980.
The accompanying photo of the red/gold model [pic 004] is the late Tony Penhall's. No powerplant is shown on the plan, but Tony described his model as "such a reliable combination" with his Lindberg Hornet A .19 spark ignition engine (replica), I currently own that engine [pic 005].
The silver model [main pic, 003] was built by Geoff Stubs, and fitted with an E.D. 2cc Competition Special diesel. (Photos of that model courtesy of Andy Brough).
Kind regards,
Peter Scott

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
