Aeronca LB (oz15716)
About this Plan
Aeronca LB. Free flight scale model for rubber power. Wingspan 18 in. Scale is 1/24.
Quote: "THE LOW WING AERONCA MODEL 'LB': Produced to fill the demands of the private and commercial operators, the new low wing Aeronca Model LB is the latest development of the Aeronautical Corporation of America. In general appearance, this new model, is remarkably similar-to the largest Airline Transport Planes. Being a low wing, full. cantilever Monoplane, equipped with air brakes and a cantilever landing gear completely faired. The fuselage and tail surfaces are of steel tube construction and are fabric-covered. The wing is of spruce box spar and truss type rib construction. The leading edge is of dural and the entire wing is fabric-covered. The cabin is well upholstered and large enough to comfortably accommodate two people, side by side, and several large Gladstone bags. Dual controls and brakes are provided, the brake lever and flap control being located in the center of the cabin within easy reach of the pilot.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: Every experienced model builder has tools at hand and favorite short cuts in construction which help him to build better models with less trouble. But before he starts any construction, he goes over the drawings and instructions several times to familiarize himself with each step and in the end he has saved a great deal of time and trouble and has a better looking model.
With the introduction of SKYMASTERS Book-Type instruction sheet, we are giving Model Engineers short cuts and hints which will help him in building models.
CONSTRUCTION: The 'framework' type of construction has been found to be the best all-round type. It is the basic type for flying models and most nearly approaches standard construction practice in aircraft. It is by far the easiest to line up and requires no jigs. Proper alignment of the framework insures alignment in the model.
The fuselage is usually recommended as the first part to be constructed because it is the most difficult and because the rest of the plane is assembled on to it.
To the framework are added the formers, each of which is cemented on as it is cut from the printed wood. This avoids confusion and loss of parts.
Always cut and sand the inside curves of printed parts before cutting the outside curves. Never try to cut exactly to a curved line. Cut outside the line and sand to the center of it. Greater accuracy and neatness are obtained in this way..."

ScaleType: This (oz15716) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeronca_L
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.
Corrections? Use the correction form to tell us the new/better ScaleType link we should be using. Thanks.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
