About this Plan

SE5a. Free flight scale model WWI biplane fighter, for rubber power. Wingspan 24 in.

Quote: "Assembly Instructions. Before beginning to assemble the parts which make up this kit, it is advisable to study all of them on the plan, in order to perfectly understand the construction of the model. Assembly should be done on a board or work table as flat as possible, and the fact that pins will be used and glue applied during the different phases of construction, should be taken into consideration. We recommend the use of cellulosic glues, such as, I-MEDIO, P-33, BRITFIX, etc.

Carefully observe the following instructions and you will obtain an attractive and decorative model, capable of flying by its own means.

PHOTO 1. Place parts L-1, L-2, L-3, L-4, and L-5 on the plan, in the indicated posi-tion, apply glue at the joints and affix them to the plan and work table with pins, thus forming the central frame of the model.

PHOTO 2. After placing glue at the points of union with the frame, assemble parts F-1, F-2, F-3, F-4, F-5, F-6, F-7, F-8, F-9, F-10, and F-11, such that they all form a 90° angle with the base of the plan. Use a drawing triangle or similar instrument. When the glue has completely dried, assemble parts L-6 and L-7. Reinforce all of the joints of the assembled parts with glue. When this has been done, half of the base frame of the model will have been completed.

PHOTO 3. Cut the 2 x 2 mm slats on parts F, leaving them a little longer than part F-1 toward the outside. Place glue on all 'f the points where the slats join parib 7 a: 9 them together, but do not force the unior When all the glued pieces are cc riietely dry, pull out the pins and separate this half part of the fuselage. Be careful not to break any of the parts.

PHOTO 4. To assemble the other half of the model, glue parts F-1 to F-11 in their proper places, these must form one plane with the parts that have already been assembled. Then, glue parts L-6 and L-7 in the same manner as in PHOTO 2, and reinforce all of the joints as before. Put on the 2 x 2 slabs following the same instructions as in Photo 3, and sandpaper the rugged points of the F-1 so that they are smooth, after which the fuselage will be finished.

Glue parts R-1, R-2 and R-3 to the places indicated at both sides of the fuselage and make a cut in parts R-3 which will serve to fasten the 2 mm metal rod which holds the rubber band Later, with fine sandpaper, smooth the entire surface of the fuselage until all excess glue or wood has been removed.

PHOTO, 5. Place glue at the joints of parts D-1 and D-2, E-1 and E-2, and T-1, T-2 and T-3 and affix them with pins as shown in the drawing. Let them dry, and once dry, glue part T-4 onto parts T-1, T-2 and T-3, as well as the landing gear steel rod. Reinforce the joint with paper... "
