About this Plan

Hoggitt. Radio control sport model. Wingspan 40 in, for .10 to .15 engines.

Quote: "Fred Dunn's immortal Astro Hog (oz4756) has inspired many designers, not least DS Ridgway who presents here his 40 in version for .10 to .12 engines.

Hoggitt was designed to fulfil four distinct aims:

1. A very simple, quick and inexpensive to build low wing sportster for the wide range of excellent .10 -.12 motors that are now widely and cheaply available.
2. Full house controls to give a good aerobatic capability to satisfy most pilots.
3. An easy to get at, not cramped R/C installation, with room for a big fuel tank.
4. Forgiving, vice free performance.

History: Hoggitt followed on from a couple of other similar size designs, but it has been made lighter and the construc-tion simplified. The latest version uses a slightly different airfoil section and the length of the nose has been revised to avoid the need for unneces-sary weight in the nose to get the CG right. It is very easy to build and follows traditional techniques - just follow the plan!

Performance: The first version was fitted was fit-ted with an ME Heron diesel, but Hoggitt now flies on an ASP 12 which gives it sparkling performance on full chat. A 15 could also be fitted if you wanted to use a wider throttle range during aerobatics. Low speed handling is very good and it lives up to my last design aim, being vice free. Enjoy building and flying your very own Hoggitt!"

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
