About this Plan

Cirrus Mk49. Control line stunt model. Wingspan 32 in.

Quote: "PERFORMANCE KITS 'CIRRUS'

INTRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT: The Cirrus was designed as an advanced stunt model of compact dimensions, yet capable of executing the new SMAE stunt schedule when powered by a high performance 1-1.5 cc diesel. The Cirrus has been tested under all weather conditions, and if built correctly is guaranteed to give a remarkable performance. A 0.75-1.0 c.c. diesel or glow plug engine can be fitted if you intend to fly your Cirrus as a sports model, or as a basic stunt trainer. If intended for the latter use it is important to 'build light'. Remember before starting construction that the main difference between a really well built model, and the typical mediocre one, is the correct and vigorous use of 0 and 00 gauge sandpaper.

CONSTRUCTION: Wings: Cover the plan with transparent wax paper. Pin the notched 3/4 x 1/4 TE, 3/4 x 1/4 tip pieces, and 1/8 x 1/8 lower rear main spar over the plan. Fit ribs R1 to R6, upper rear main spar and 1/4 x 1/4 leading edge. Fit the 1/8 x 1/8 lower and upper front main spar and gussets W1 and W2. Fit the outer wing tip line counter weight, and the two line guide tubes in the inner wing tip.

Bell Crank Mechanism: Assemble the bell crank assembly on the ply former as per the G/A sketch. Fit the lead out wires in position through the wing and connect to the bell crank. Fit the flap push rod before cementing the entire assembly into the centre section of the wing. Do not carry out final tightening of the top two location nuts until the elevator push rod is installed..."

Quote: "Hi Mary/Steve, Please find attached the plan, printwood, instructions and a Performance Kits advertisement for the Cirrus Mk 49, a 32" wingspan stunt control line model. The model was designed by Peter (O.F.W.) Fisher and sold as a kit through Peter's company Performance Kits. He first flew the Cirrus Mk 49 on 14 May 1959. The printwood is not complete, however, there is enough information to complete the model. The advert is from Aero Modeller December 1959 when the model was released with a kit price of 21/6. Best wishes, Mark Robinson"

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
