About this Plan

Cutlass 10. Radio control sport scale model. For .10 power or slope soaring. Wingspan 34 in, wing area 240 sq in.

Note this kit used a ready-cut foam wing. See supplement files for a built-up alternative wing.

Quote: "Cutlass 10 RC kit @ $49.95 from Global Hobby Distributors. Patterned after the Vought F7U Cutlass of the early Fifties, the Cutlass 10 is an easy-to-build flying wing design which is lots of fun on the slope as a PSS (power scale slope) glider or straight power flying with a .10 to .15 engine.

Flying wings, by their very nature, are simple aircraft: no tail boom, no tail surfaces, and hardly any fuselage, With this Global Quality Kit, the wings are simply foam cores with seamless 1/20 balsa skins (no ribs to bother with). The fuselage is a small affair with a simple design, and you don't even need rudders. Strip elevons are used to control this model, and they are very easy to install.

Inside the kit box you'll find the highest quality balsa, spruce, plywood, and polystyrene foam materials precisely cut to exacting tolerances. Basic hardware items include a sliding servo tray for elevon mixing, pre-bent tricycle landing gear, all horns and hinges, and a clear molded canopy. The full-size CAD plans are easy to follow, and the step-by-step, illustrated instructions guide the experienced modeler to successful completion, including a test flight.

Few models the size of the Cutlass 10 can match its dazzling speed and quick roll rate. Other fliers will stop to watch you fly it. Specifications include a wingspan of 34 in, wing area of 220 sq in, and weight of 24 to 32 oz. A two- or three-channel radio is required."

Quote: "Here is a bunch of stuff for the Cutlass 10 by Global, a line once sold by Hobby Shack. I had one of the larger versions of this plane, but sold it off before I had archived the info. (I learned my lesson.) Anyway, I cranked out a Compufoil file for the wing, I used the NACA 0011 airfoil at the root and tip. The larger Cutlass 45 had a 52" wingspan, if you are wanting to scale this up. They are reportedly quite sensitive to the CG location. These designs are apparently from the mid 1990's. Dave"

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
