Quote: "1/2A Challenger, by Dave Scott. I AM a 15 years old schoolboy and my interests are motorcycling, modelling, fishing, swimming and girls, in that order. I am a member of Southend Control Line Club and would like to be a 'pit man' in racing sometime in the future. I also like to fly full size combat planes, but cannot afford a fast glow motor yet. However I do have some fun with a 2.5cc MVVS powered model. Last year I won the Nationals Junior A Combat but this year I had to get my '0' level exams out of the way first before I could get building. I completed three Challengers just before the Nationals where I again won Junior going on to place 4th overall in the Senior event.
The result of my efforts to design a 1/2A Combat model culminated years ago with the Challenger. Since build-ing the first one no major design changes have been necessary. Challenger is stranger than the current trend but I believe this is a definite advantage, since only one model is permitted per bout, and this model will survive mid-airs and crashes better than most.
The building time is fast and very simple and also quite cheap, especially if you have of a Dad like I have, whose materials you can pinch, while he is busy with his projects. In the hands of an experienced flyer the Challenger is a contest winner, but it is nevertheless also an ideal beginner's model being predictable and without vice and a real toughie. So let's build one and join in the fun of 1/2A Combat flying..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
