About this Plan

Freedom. Radio control slope soarer model. Wingspan 74 in.

Note the AR-1 (oz6339) was first published in RCM, Oct 1982. This here is the AR-1 kitted later as the 'Freedom' by Craft Air.

There are some minor differences between the two plans. For more detail on this (including step by step build pics) see Adventrider's excellent RGroups build thread at https://www.rcgroups.com/forums...

Quote: "The build sequence of this glider is a little different that most. As always read through the instructions and get a general idea of the sequence prior to starting. Instructions have you start with the fin assembly.

The AR-1 became the Freedom when Craft-Air kitted the design and there are some differences depending on which set of plans you have. I will try to capture the differences, but what is relevant is that Craft-Air requires more parts made from smaller pieces and fixes some minor errors on the AR-1 plans while creating others.

I start with 2 copies of plans, one is sacrificial to use as templates.

Start with the fin core pieces. AR-1 uses a single piece of 1/4 x 4 inch wide stock. Freedom breaks this down into smaller pieces of 2 in wide stuff, which I prefer because it splits up the grain direction and makes for a stronger assembly..."

User comments

This plan should be identical to the AR-1 plan (oz6339), which is already noted in the user comments there.
You'll find also the RCM instructions and many photos there.

Indeed. The two plans are not identical, and the detail differences between them are interesting. We have a link between the two plans already, it is in the description text.

Hi Steve, thanks for clarification.
Lesson learned: It's always good to look twice! ;-)

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
