Quote: "Steve and Mary, One of my modeling buddies in Canada has been following the move of the Martin JRM-3 Mars 'Hawaii' to a museum.
Here's the link that inspired my new plan of this aircraft: https://www.stickandtissue.com/forum/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1717638300 Stick and Tissue Forum - Want to fly the Martin Mars?
I have always loved float planes and flying boats and this aircraft is a rare example of the largest flying boat in the U.S. Navy's history.
The Aviationist website has a great article on the arrival of the JRM-3 Mars "Hawaii" : 78 Years Old Martin JRM Mars Retires To Museum. See https://theaviationist.com/2024/08/14/78-years-old-martin-jrm-mars-retires-to-museum/One of the only two surviving Martin JRM Mars flying boats was finally retired after 78 years of service, flying to its new home at the British Columbia Aviation Museum.
Martin JRM3 Mars Plan, in 54 inch span.

Tom Akery/Sky9pilot

ScaleType: This (oz15501) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_JRM_Mars
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.
Corrections? Use the correction form to tell us the new/better ScaleType link we should be using. Thanks.

Oh boy, here we go again! Tom Akery's Martin Mars drawing has the creative juices flowing! I recently watched a video on YouTube of giant indoor RC airplanes, which I believe are mostly made of 1mm depron foam. It is mesmerizing to watch this video, I thought! See the YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Kk5EGpYuckNow apply that technique to this Martin Mars plan. It would not necessarily have to be an indoor model! Oh yeah, I love seaplanes too!

The flying surfaces are probably foam, but the fuselage is obviously an inflatable balloon filled with a mixture of air and helium to achieve the correct amount of floatiness

Another "Sky9piloticity" and that word means "Sky9pilot masterpiece" or words to that effect :) No more comments are needed as the plan speaks very well for itself!
Just one question: is there any way to find upload dates on the plans in freeflightarchive.com? As it is, locating new uploads is pretty much an endeavour comparable to numbering planks in Noah's Ark :)

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
