Zanzara (oz15493)
About this Plan
Zanzara. Free flight rubber sport model.
Note this is an Italianised copy of the original 1935 Cadet Junior (oz7583) design.
Direct submission to Outerzone.
Planfile includes full build instructions.
Quote: "ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS: Before starting, study the drawing carefully and use the layout diagram to help you, identify the pieces contained on the die-cut boards and detach them with light finger pressure. Where necessary, use a broken razor blade (see drawing) to complete the cut. If, during this operation, any pieces should break, repair them by reuniting the fragments with the glue contained in the tube included in the box.
To proceed with assembly, lay out the drawing on a flat board on which you can stick pins.
THE WING is made up of two half-wings that are built as follows.
Prepare the wing spar, shaping a 2 x 3 strip as shown in the drawing, using a ruler and a razor blade or sandpaper. Fix it on the drawing in its position, using pins and glue the ribs (from 1 to 5) by placing a drop of glue between them. Install the leading edge, keeping it close to the nose of the ribs, with pins (the system is the same as indicated in the drawing for assembling the fuselage). Similarly, the trailing edge of the wing must be installed after having made the recesses for the ribs' tails. Once the terminals (no. 6 and 7) and the last rib, as well as the leading and trailing edges of the center, have been glued, the wing can be detached from the plane. Bear in mind that the glue dries completely in about half an hour.
The wing must now be folded upwards so that the ends are 60 mm from the reference plane of the central section. The union of the spars is clearly illustrated and to obtain it it is a good idea to place shims (for example books) under the wing tips, holding the center in place with pins.
Once dry, shape the wing with sandpaper no. 0 the leading and trailing edge in order to obtain the perfect shape of the wing profile.
TAIL PLANES are assembled directly on the drawing by arranging the pieces of strip, cutting them with a razor blade to the indicated measurements and holding them still during gluing with pins.
FUSELAGE Using 2 x 2 mm strips, construct the bottom and the back of the fuselage directly on the drawing; the perspective figure clearly illustrates how to use the pins to hold the pieces still during gluing. The two parts must then be joined using the procedure indicated in the figure (2, 3. and 4, phase) the lengths of the crosspieces can be obtained directly from the side view of the fuselage; to hold the pieces still during the drying of the glue you can use small elastic rings..."

Did we get something wrong with these details about this plan (especially the datafile)?
That happens sometimes. You can help us fix it.

Hi Steve, you could link it to 'Aviaminima' as producer. Looking for Aviominima I found 'Settebello' and further on Pit's so interesting comments. Pit, thanks for that!

"If you want to get ahead, get a hat!"
A hatmakers ad that I remember seeing in a WW2-era magazine, The Sphere, Illustrated London News or something of the sort :)

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
