Sakura (oz15481)

Sakura (oz15481) by Mike Denest, Gene Rock 2014 - plan thumbnail

About this Plan

Sakura. Radio control sport aerobatic model. Wingspan 46 in, for .09 power.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "Here's a single channel contest model for rudder and aileron only from the Japanese R/C Technique magazine and then republished in the 1964 - 1965 Aeromodeller Annual. I did the initial trace work, dimensioning the model from the three views then handed it off to Gene Rock for checks and 3D views. Since there was no name published, we called it Sakura. It's a nice model for .09 as designed but it can also accommodate electric power and full house control.

Attached are the Aeromodeller three views, the reworked PDF drawing and CAD file.

To me this is the Tokyo-Echo (oz1338), believe it or not it was conceived as single channel for aileron only! Read the article. Possibly that at the time Aeromodeller interpreted the Japanese drawings as a linked aileron/rudder not believing in aileron only and some photo shows this version. Note that in the general shape is a reduced Kazmirki's Taurus

This model is a 46 inch span (.09 power) while the Tokyo Echo is 52 inches (.15 - .19 power). However, I agree both are similar in outline appearance.

Also note that Sakura has a flat bottom airfoil while Tokyo Echo is a symmetrical airfoil.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
