Quote: "Steve and Mary, Here's a plan I finished earlier this year can't remember if it was January or February 2024 but I was looking for an early Jet that I hadn't seen modeled. A lot of Dassault later jet have been drawn up but I couldn't fine the Grandfather of the French jet anywhere, so here's a Hurricane (Ouragan) as the French called her. She was designed using the English Whittle Jet engine and thin airfoil as the Lockheed P-80 with more sweep in the leading edge and horizontal stab. It's a very interesting story about Mr Dassault and his name change and history during WWII.
So here's the 27 inch version of my model drawn from a 3-view I found on the net. The horizontal stab was enlarged in span approximately 20%. I've used the ladder jig for building this plan where the fuselage formers are made from laminated 1/32" sheet balsa or using 1/32"x1/16" strips laminated around the former patterns. I like to use the "Koutny" style stringers of 1/32"x1/16" strips spaced approximagely 1/8" apart. I usually find a scrape piece of 1/16"x1/8 strip to use as a spacer usually around the middle of the fuselage because the stringers draw closer to each other at the tappered nose and tail of the fuselage. Remember to leave enough space to remove the steps of the ladder jig before putting on all the stringers alternating side to side on the jig!!
Wing is built using the Dave Rees' style wing construction. This makes a really light yet strong wing. Check out Mike Stuart's modelling site for a great tutorial of this technique: http://www.ffscale.co.uk/rees.htm
I usually build one panel first then the other before joining them together. The ROT (Rule of Thumb) in the modeling community is the wingtip should be right at the bottom of the canopy. Usually 1.5 to 2 inches under each wingtip.
The horizontal stab is constructed of 1/16" sq strips of balsa. I like the triangulated ribs which help in keeping warping to a minimum. Sometimes I'll add a additional balsa strip at the peaks of each diamond and sand to airfoil shape. This also adds to the stiffness of the stab.
With the stove pipe style of fuselage you can make this a pusher or tractor jet by using a clear prop made from a two liter soda bottle. Use your favorite blade shape.
I haven't built this one yet but as you can see I do have a plan on how I'd build it. I hope someone builds it before I find time to build it. I do love the early jets!! Aircraft manufacturers were doing alot of experimenting with wing shape and power plants. I believe some of the unsucessful prototype might have survived if the jet engines of the day produced a bit more power. As they say about one of my favorite jets, the F-4E Phantom, she's proof that with enough thrust you can get a brick to fly!!!
Enjoy,

ScaleType: This (oz15451) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dassault_Ouragan
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
