About this Plan

H-101 Salto. Radio control scale model sailplane. Wingspan 2300 mm. Scale is 1/6.

Quote: "RC glider model: SALTO. RC glider model by Ing Wilfried Klinger based on original documents from Start + Flug GmbH, Saulgau.

The H-101 'Salto' glider was developed by Mrs Hänle, who kindly allowed us to build a replica model. Salto is designed for aerobatics and our model glider is intended for the same purpose.

A profile specially designed for this model allows not only aerobatics but also good gliding performance both on slopes and in thermal flight. The model meets high strength requirements and can therefore be used at high wind speeds.

The V-tail and large ailerons make the Salto model extremely maneuverable. The fuselage is very spacious and allows the installation of all known remote controls with four servos.

The model is of course suitable for the increasingly popular aircraft tow. Only this type of take-off allows model pilots on the plane to have their glider model towed by a motor model to a height of several hundred meters in just a few minutes and to complete an aerobatic program from this height or to seek thermals.

Salto has a very flat glide angle and a wonderful flight pattern that differs considerably from most glider models.

The fuselage is made of seamless GRP construction. The wing and tail connections are molded on. The wings and tail are a simple wooden construction with pine spars, extra reinforced in the middle section. For experts, there is an easy way to install flaps.

The V-tail drive included in the kit is suitable for servos RS-10 or similar. If you only have linear servos, use the 'Mixer', order no 275.

The SALTO can be flown particularly easily and precisely with the electronic mixer, order no 7027. This mixer is available for almost all remote control devices. Significant competition successes were achieved with the Salto, especially in speed flying and aerobatics. The Salto was victorious in Austria, Sweden, England, Spain, Japan and Australia."

Update 7/7/2024: Added kit instructions, thanks to Pit.

ScaleType: This (oz15398) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Start_%2B_Flug_H-101
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Hi there, start+flug gmbh was located in Saulgau, Saufgau would be in english something like "swigging district" ;-)
greetings

Ah, ok got it. Have fixed the spelling now. Many thanks.

I believe there is enough info on the plan to render the fuselage formers (standoff scale). Use D-D and draw the smaller missing formers inside it (concentrically). Decide where you want the missing formers on the side view and measure the plan view and side view distances from the X and Y axis (dashed cross lines). Plot the points inside D-D and finish with your French curve. Could get very busy in there so maybe separate drawings of the formers before D-D and those aft of D-D. Goodly amount of work but the Salto is worth it if any airplane is.

I will have a look into the "Simmons" later this day and tell you. Cross sections should be mostly elliptical.

Like promised, I just checked the drawings in Martin Simmons´ book "Sailplanes 1965 - 2000": Fuselage cross sections are elliptical to circular, with modifications in the area of the wing root fairings and landing gear.

Hello. I think there is enough information for its manufacture. But I would like to know both the RAl of the paint as well as the position of the stickers.

Looking at the offerings from some kit manufacturers it looks as though the most likely colour for an overall yellow model would be Signal Yellow, RAL 1003.
Many of the full-size machines shown in images on the Web seem to be white, RAL 9003, with various (usually red, RAL 3020) trims.
In the end it's up to the individual how faithful to a full-size prototype they choose to make their model, which is one of the many reasons why this is such a great hobby.
There are plenty of photos that include possible positions of stickers, depending on whether or not the model is to represent a full-size aircraft.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
