Aggressor (oz15352)
About this Plan
Mercury Aggressor. Free flight sport model. Delta wing layout, with tractor prop. Wingspan 39 in.
Direct submission to Outerzone.
Quote: "Another rare non-scale Mercury plan for you, a free flight 39 in jet lookalike called the Agressor. It was designed by a Squadron Leader L. Ellis with the plan being drawn by Ron Warring. It seems to be based on the Gloster Javelin and has a huge wing area for its span, especially given it says it can be powered by a little 0.55cc DC Dart!
It's not one that I'd ever seen before and it'd make an impressive and different model for free flight fun flying events. I don't know the year that this one was designed but the style of the box art would suggest some time in the late fifties or early sixties. It certainly looks like it drew a lot of inspiration from the then new all-weather Gloster Javelin fighter. All the best,"
Update 14/6/2024: Added printwood scan, thanks to Dilwyn.

Hi Steve, I think you've missed the parts sheets for this one, I've resent them to you. Cheers,Dilwyn - 14/06/2024
Doh, yes. My mistake. Hang on, will get that sorted out... ok, done now. Many thanks :)

I found the earliest advertisement for the Mercury Agressor kit on page 330 of the June 1956 issue of Aeromodeller, in the Arthur Mullet ad.

Got it, have set the date here to 1956 now, thanks.

G'day Steve and Mary. I built a Mercury Aggressor from an original kit about thirty years ago. A very stable model, my Mills .75 powered example came second in the Night Scramble event at an Australian Nationals.
Now I can build another one thanks to your newly published plan.

Hi, I also built one of these from the kit in 1963 or 64, in England. I can't remember it flying tho (which usually meant disaster on first or second flight attempts, I didn't know much about trimming back then...). I remember it seeming to be really big in my mums garden shed and would my DC 1cc diesel be enough power (I found another kit on ebay a few years back and the instructions emphasise not to overpower it). I still have a bit of the tailpipe, which has a Meccano standard wheel (steel) stuck in it for tail weight!

July 1956 Aeromodeller also has (in "Trade Notes" page 380) announcement of introduction of Agressor with some details and photograph of the model with Mills 0.75.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
