Spanish Fly (oz15335)
About this Plan
Spanish Fly (A 24 hr Scratch Design and Build Glider). Free flight glider model. Wingspan 50 cm.
Direct submission to Outerzone.
Quote: "Dear Outerzone, Stuck in a holiday house in Spain without much to do, and with a few bits of balsa sneaked into our luggage, I designed and made this, yesterday.
Spanish Fly is a very simple construction. The wing has no spar but is otherwise conventional. The V-shaped fuselage has sides only, which are glued together at the keel with the tops glued to the underside of the wing at the TE and LE. Note the cutouts in the fuselage sheets which enable this. Towards the tail, the fuselage sides become vertical to form the inverted fin.
Lots of sanding gets the weight down before covering with tissue.
WS is 50cm, but it could be scaled without much modification to 100cm or more.

Dear Steve and Mary, Here is a shot of a slightly modified Spanish Fly with a dihedral break in each wing, flying in a park near Madrid. You will see that the V fuselage and the skeg fin have been retained.Bill Dixon - 10/06/2024

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
