The Douglas DC-5 was a 16-to-22-seat, twin-engine propeller aircraft intended for shorter routes than the Douglas DC-3 or Douglas DC-4. By the time it entered commercial service in 1940, many airlines were canceling orders for aircraft. Consequently, only five civilian DC-5s were built."

An interesting plan--and an interesting plane. I think the five commercial versions went to serve with a KLM affiliate in Indonesia.The Navy and Marine Corps bought some. One use was parachute training at Gillespie Field just east of San Diego. I had a friend, now deceased who joined the Marines in the fall of 1941. He got parachute training--bailing out of the Navy's version of the DC 5 at Gillespie Field in the late winter and early spring of 41-42. By late spring the Marines decided they didn't need a parachuter regiment. Most of the would be parachuters--including my friend--were landed on Tulagi off Guadalcanal in August 1942.

Just found this history of the Douglas DC-5. DC standing for "Douglas Commercial". It seems that KLM is the only airline that has flown all DC aircraft of Douglas. Here's a link to the article:

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
