Quote: "Hi Mary, Please see attached a plan for the 62” wingspan Sun Duster, another lovely design by O.F.W. (Peter) Fisher who ran Performance Kits. This is another little known design, which he first flew in 1947, when he would have been only 14 years old. This design was, as far as I know, never kitted or published, but only ever supplied as a plan.
The plan for this came from the estate of the late John Kemp, via his friend David Hill. John Kemp was a close friend of the late Peter Fisher and had a number of Peter Fisher’s plans. I have been working with David Hill to get these plans repaired, scanned and cleaned up, so they could be posted on Outerzone. Best wishes, Mark Robinson"

3 sizes of Sun Duster were built by John Kemp with the encouragement of Peter Fisher. One of them, powered by a Stentor ignition engine, is shown on the cover of Peter Fisher's book on Model Engines, though surprisingly there was no acknowledgement of the fact by Fisher himself. The Stentor was a particularly powerful example.One of John Kemp's Sun Dusters won the Sigma Trophy Contest for ignition powered models in 1988, 1989 and 1990. He won the trophy again in 1991 with a Cloud Elf.

The plan shown here is for the SUN DUSTER . I have the plan . The photo to the right is for the GREATER DUSTER ! It was powered by the Stentor 6 c.c. spark engine . In Peter's book , page 96 top left is a photo of the Sun Duster . Note the landing gear (undercarriage details as for the plan entry today (24 May, 2024). Page 98 overleaf shows the Greater Duster with a very different landing gear arrangement . It was a larger version and probably preceded the Sun Duster . The latter is a 1946 design and my plan shows a 4.5 c.c. Majesco spark engine . The wheels are shown as 3 inch baloon and the landing gear is mounted on the most forward bulkhead , pure Peter Fisher . The gear on the Greater Duster appears to be mounted a bit further back and may be of greater diameter . It has dual legs on either side of the fuselage . These two models and their respective photo images are often mixed up . The fins and underfins of these two models are quite different making it easier to differentiate between them ! Peter's photos show this quite clearly . Hope this helps !

Ah. Right. Can you save us all some time and just send in a pic of the correct model? I don't have the book physically here, as I said this photo of the book cover was found online. See my comment above. But you do have the book. Thanks.

I do not have a photo of the correct model , but you can have a choice of photos by going to the Vintage Model Works web site and scrolling down to the vintage/historic entry and when the contents double bar appears click on aircraft kits where the first kit shows several different images of 'Sunduster' models which if you click on the thumbnails and wait a few seconds you get a much enlarged image ! You can go crazy trying to decide which one to select ! Now if someone could only find a plan for the Greater Duster and send it to Outerzone !
I believe a/some photos of 'Sunduster' appear in your Gallery file .

Allen, they all look the same to me. That's why we have the wrong picture up here just now. That's how we got here. That's the problem we are trying to solve. Do you not think it might be best if you - the person who does know which one is the right picture - simply send it in?

Essentially they are the same, but with subtle differences. I had all versions in my possession, but passed them on to somebody else, and am trying to retrieve photos. The original drawings for the Greater Duster were in pencil on the back of other plans.

Ok, done. Finally. Have added a new model photo [main pic] with thanks to Skippy. Moved the questionable photo (of the Greater Sunduster) down to pic 003. Thanks for your help David.

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
