What are you doing this weekend? Do you have about five dollars burning a hole in your pocket plus about eight hours of free time? What's that? You have never built a model before? Then take off to the nearest hobby shop. pick up the list of supplies, (don't forget the engine) and you'll have yourself some flying fun, Sunday afternoon!
For you experienced modelers, here's a chance to get a cheap stunt ship in the air that will give you the opportunity you've needed to really practice the difficult points of the stunt pattern. The removable wing allows for a few mistakes too. In case of a mishap, just slip on another wing and you're back up there! Well, here goes:
Friday night construction: Fuselage and tail: Begin fuselage construction by cutting out the two sides from 3/32 sheet balsa. Be sure to mark bulkhead locations. Glue in plywood former No.7 (tail gear attached with soft wire) and hold end together with clothes pins. Insert and glue formers 6 through 1 using rubber bands and pins to hold things in place. Be sure to attach 3/32 diameter wire landing gear to No.2 either with J-bolts or with fine wire. Insert and glue motor mounts. Install 1/8 plywood bellcrank mount.
Cut tail surfaces from 3/32 sheet balsa, insert the control horn and attach elevator to stabilizer with cloth strips. Glue to fuselage. Glue on the fin and offset the rudder about 3/4 in. Add balsa blocks.
Position 3/16 harwood dowels behind No.2 and No.4. Install Veco bellcrank. leadout wires and 1/16 piano wire push rod. Cover top and bottom of fuselage with 1/16 sheet balsa (cross grain), add plastic canopy and cover rear top deck with 1/32 balsa. Install 2 x 2 x 1 in gas tank and block in nose.
Wing: Pin down notched trailing edge and bottom spar over plans. Insert and glue all ribs. Then add leading edge, top spar and wing tips. Don't forget the line guides on the inboard wing rib and 3/4 ounce weight on the outboard tip.
Saturday Night: Cover wing with Silkspan. Sand fuselage and paint with two coats of clear dope. Sand again. Paint wing with two coats of clear, and fuselage with two coats of sanding sealer.
Sunday Morning: Finish painting entire model with two more coats of clear and two coats of color dope. Add wheels and engine.
Sunday Afternoon: Attach wing with four good thick rubber bands, wind up the engine and let her go! You'll find this ship very stable and equally responsive. "

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
