About this Plan
Idefix. Radio control pylon racer model. Wingspan 1140 mm.
Quote (google-translated from the Italian): "Idéfix: strange name to give to a model. But he earned it in the field after the first few flights.
Looking at it, so small and pot-bellied, it looks like a fun model like there are many, with a 4-stroke engine that doesn't give off maximum oomph. But when it starts to roll, it transforms due to the acceleration and, when it takes the wheels off the ground, it really starts to growl, sorry, to turn like real pylons do: tight turns and tense trajectories. But no, that's all: when you climb altitude, try to give full aileron - before you recover from the surprise the model will have done at least three rolls at an incredible speed. Do you understand now why it bears the name of the little dog of Gallic memory?
Jokes aside, this model takes flight immediately after another of my creations, the 'Little Gem' (see Modellismo no.4), and in the same order I propose to you because despite being a decidedly spectacular model, as it has widely demonstrated in Molinella's demonstrations, has (or had?) a small flaw: he is alone.
While waiting for someone else to build similar models, I thought of creating a model without reproduction claims, but which is inspired by the unmistakable lines of these splendid thoroughbreds, of decidedly smaller dimensions, so much so that it can be transported completely assembled in the trunk of a Panda and with a 4-stroke engine that is now widespread. Someone will object that a category of 4-stroke pylon already exists, but my intent is different and that is not to get lost in complicated calculations between bonuses, penalties and timed times, but to promote a certain way of flying in a group to pure fun without the worry of competition.
The model, as a whole, looks very similar to its larger brother but the fuselage was as it was. completely redesigned around the Saito 50 in the style of the 1930s pylons with in-line engine.
I advise you not to power it with a 2-stroke for three good reasons: the first is that the 2-stroke muffler is the most unsightly thing there could be: the second is that, since the 2-stroke weighs less, it will create centering problems for you: the third, and for me the most important, is that you would lose the sympathy of those who, by not sharing our hobby, are forced to suffer its noise.
Construction: The Wing: Initially it was my intention to make a more traditional curved wing, but a friend interested in this model unexpectedly offered to make a polystyrene wing for me too.
Even if this construction system is not my favourite, the saving of time and the certainty that my friend would have done an excellent job have dispelled any doubts..."

Ah, I see now, Idefix is the name of Asterix's dog. From the 1970s French cartoons. I wasn't a reader myself.SteveWMD - 18/01/2024

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
