Thermalair (oz15048)
About this Plan
Thermalair. Free flight power model. Wingspan 72 in.
Quote: "Thermalair is an attractive but simple Free-flight which is rugged and capable of some fine flying. With the new K&B .35 engine with throttle control, the engine can be throttled down for docile low-power test flights; however, with the engine set for full power, the climb is straight up and fast. Thermalair has several contest first places to its credit as proof of the pudding.
This airplane has a six-foot span and is just the right size to fit a large range of engines. This size of Ther-malair has been flown successfully with .29 to .49 engines. For smaller displacement engines, use lighter grades of wood. By using hard balsa throughout. Thermalair is rugged as a bulldozer at 49 oz, for engines like the Triumph and McCoy .49. 35 sized engines like the Torp, shown, are a good happy medium in size.
Interested? Good! Let's get busy by drawing up the plans. You don't have to be a draftsman to scale up these plans. Parts are shown full size. The balance of the plans are quarter-size and a pencil, paper, and ruler are all that are required to scale up these plans within an hour or less.
Construction: Build the wing and tail group first and completely cover and dope these units to let them age while building the fuselage. The wing and elevator are constructed the same. All ribs are cut from 3/32 sheet except the wing ribs at the dihedral breaks which are 1/8 sheet..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
