ScaleType: This (oz15031) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waco_Aristocraft
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Pretty novel flying machine !! It appears though as if there are scaling issues on the plan. Overlaying front keel FA onto fuselage sideview does not match; neither does keel FD onto fuselage top view fit. Pity...

Both those formers look fine to me, when I try overlaying them. Certainly close enough to work with.

I think the plan is curiously scaled. Not to do with the fit of the formers. I think the issue is the wingspan - listed as 18-1/4 inches in the title block at bottom right - doesn't match up when you include the fuse width. Without the fuse width, just using the two wing panels, it's correct. The rest of the plan looks correct. Measuring the dimensioned 4 inch prop shown and the 1/2 in front wheel, those two are correct. Is it possible the plan was printed with actual wingspan of 20-7/8 in but listed as 18-1/2 in? By mistake?

The gearing system (actually pulleys and rubber band) and propeller would put a lot of weight in the tail plane to make it a nightmare in ballancing it out and keeping the model light.

Tail heavy solution: the secret is to make the model flying as canard in opposite of logical direction. Film the flight and reverse the footage before showing it to the friends. If you shot a photo in flight it's impossible to determine the direction. The trick is done!

Contrary to my instinct, I have to agree with Pit. Make sure you fly it on a dark and stormy night, lest you be dazzled by its beauty.

How would you get the rubber band around the pulley? Looks like it would have to be built in and a bear to replace.

Ah, my apologies to Kovus. Looking at this again, I agee the fit of the keel formers is problematic. Would advise anyone building from this plan to use extreme caution, and measure all parts very carefully. FD and FG are not identical lengths, and they should be. Also FA does seems a bit ill-formed, to fit well.

The registration number has te first 2 numbers inverted, original was 34219. This aircraft was bought by Terrence O'Neill that extensively modified the design with front engine, squared fuselage an conventional tail. Named Aristocraft II it resemble an anonymous homebuilt plane similar to BeeDee 6.

The front view shows the wing strut anchored to the middle rib of the wing panel, but the callout in the wing pattern is on the next outboard rib. My theory is "Modernistic Models" plans were drawn during "Happy Hour."

I think the w1 rib has to be placed in the centerline of the model, then the diehdral area has to be covered with 1/32 sheet. Effectively there is no side wall on the fuse to glue the wing. In this case brace is in the correct position, bu the registration number seems to be to large invading windows fuse roof. For the rubber band pulley the is a removable cowl upperside an removable sub rudder. But not clear how to shift the axles. As Forney Ercoupe this aircraft has no pedals coupled aileron and rudder; only stick control. Probably Swanson never built his creature.

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
