Quote: "Instructions for Building Evolution/2:
Evolution/2, designed by Bob Brugger, is a scaled down Evolution (oz8587) for flying with a 1/2A (.049) engine and for slope or thermal soaring. By using plug-in wing tip sections, Evolution/2 can be flown as a trainer or sport plane using either the 66 in wing or the 42 in wing. If the wind is blowing hard, slope soar it with the 42 in wing, or if more lift is needed use the 66 in. Evolution/2 is designed for inexpensive R/C flying using 1, 2, or 3 channel radio for rudder, elevator, and throttle.
Now to build your Evolution/2. Please read all of the instructions before starting.
Vertical Fin: Build the vertical fin for rear of fuselage and allow to dry while building the wings.
1. A flat building surface (such as a flush door) is needed to build on. Pin plans to surface and cover area of vertical fin with wax paper. Build on the plans.
2. Cut and pin in place the outer frame made of 1/8 x 1/2 balsa strips. Extend fin post to bottom of fuselage. Cement together as you go.
3. Cut horizontal rib from 1/8 x 1/4 balsa and cement in place. Pin down, allow to dry, remove and sand off edges. (Do not glue dorsal fin on yet.)
Wing: Make one right wing and one left wing.
1. Cover the wing plans with wax paper and build the right and left wing sections on a flat surface. Each section is built in one piece and cut apart at Rib R-6 when finished (if plug-in tips are desired).
2. Pin the leading edge (LE), 3/8 x 1/2 x 32, and bottom trailing edge strip (TE), 1/16 x 1 x 32, to the plans. Cut the trailing edge on the angle shown so one piece makes the bottom TE. Cement cap strips, 1/16 x 1/4 balsa, between the LE and TE (the 1/16 x 2 planking is on the front top of the wing only). Cut center sheeting from 1/16 x 3 x 13 to fit between LE and TE so it will cover the bottom of ribs R-1A and R-1B and the first rib R-1. Cement on cap strip under each of the R-6 ribs. Place strip of wax paper between cap strips and let it extend up 1" so it will keep the two ribs R-6 from sticking together. This is where the wing will be cut in two later to make the removable wing end sections..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
