About this Plan

RC Jolly. Radio control sailplane model. Wingspan 1145 mm.

Quote (google-translated from the German): "BUILDING INSTRUCTIONS. RC JOLLY for order no.4219.

RC electric glider model from 2 LiPo cells, with approx 650 mAh. An FM or HoTT radio control with 3 functions is required.

General: The RC-JOLLY model is a Graupner CLASSIC Line flight model that achieves excellent flight performance. During the conception, great importance was placed on replicating the original version with millimeter precision. The external dimensions of the fuselage are correct. The tail unit and wing as well as the rib spacing and the canopy of the model correspond exactly to the model design from 1965. Furthermore, the profile of the wing and tail unit was adopted exactly.

The model is capable of high start launch, but can also be fitted with an engine attachment, available under order no. 9401.22 can be flown as a motor glider. However, the Cox Pee Wee 0.33 cc combustion engine originally used is now replaced by an environmentally friendly Speed 300 7.2V electric motor. The stability of the wing is significantly improved, so that the model can easily be covered with covering film. Although the elegant hull has particularly small cross-sections, the RC components are installed cleanly and clearly.

Notes on model selection: The model can be built and operated in the following versions:

1. As a free flight model without an RC system.
2. As a pure RC glider model for slope flight or high takeoff.
3. As an RC electric or glider model with an attachable motor attachment.
4. As a pure RC Electric flight model with permanently installed motor kit.

Version 3 in particular requires sound model building skills and should therefore only be chosen by experienced model builders. You should choose the version before starting construction. The following construction instructions describe the different versions for each respective construction stage. Versions 1, 2 and 4 eliminate several components, making assembly much easier.

Construction instructions: Before starting construction, please read the construction instructions together with the construction plans so that you get an overview of the assembly process. Prepare the necessary components, tools and adhesives for each construction stage. Use the balsa knife to cut out the individual, laser-cut wooden parts from the boards. When assembling, always ensure there is a clean, smooth surface (system building board order no. 645). Unless otherwise stated, use UHU-HART as the adhesive, then there will still be time for any corrections. If necessary, fix the components with pins until the adhesive has hardened. Be careful not to get any residual glue on your hands or on the surface of the model. Wipe off excess adhesive with tissue paper.

Fuselage: Place the building plan sheet 1 on the building board and cover the area of the fuselage floor (13) and the right side part of the fuselage (2) with transparent film so that the components do not stick to the building plan later. Glue the fuselage side (2) and staple it in line with the drawing of the construction plan. Glue the torso strap (4), starting from the front, exactly flush with the outer edge of part (2). Attach the frames (7) to (10) as a test, insert the parts (3), (18), (19) to check, and only then the parts (18). Glue (3) and (29) to the fuselage side part (2)..."

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
