About this Plan

EZ Penny. Indoor rubber model.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "The E-Z Penny was the third airplane used in the Oakland Cloud Dusters Youth Program, after the Dandiflyer. The motor and prop hook wires were cut off with a diagonal cutter which left a sharp chisel end on the wire. This sharp wire would cut the rubber motors, causing them to break prematurely. To prevent that, file the ends of the wires round before gluing them to the stick."

Update 26/1/2024: Added kit inventory, also photo of kit contents [pic 003], thanks to Gary Hinze.

Update 1/2/2024: Added parts scan, thanks to Gary Hinze.

Quote: "Mary: Fred Terzian, President of the Oakland Cloud Dusters, received an inquiry about the dihedral jigs for the E-Z Penny. I thought the information was on the plan. It is not. I have scanned the sheet balsa parts, which include the jigs, attached.

The kit included laser cut sheet balsa dihedral gauges. The plan is not clear. Base dihedral is 2" with 1/8" washin/washout. Here are the measurements so you can make them directly. You will be making two trapezoids. Both have a base length of 4 1/8". The left gauge is 2" high at the leading edge and 1 7/8" high at the trailing edge. The right gauge is 2" high at the leading edge and 2 1/8" high at the trailing edge.

By the way, the performance can be greatly improved by using 9% circular arc airfoils for the ribs, cut from 1/32" sheet. A 9% arc on a 4 1/8" chord requires a circle with radius 5 29/32". Gary"

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
