About this Plan

Scat Cat 36. Radio control sport model, for electric power. Wingspan 36 in.

Note the Riley Wooten design Scat Cat (oz4445) dates back to 1980, a pylon racer with 51 in span. This here is a modern CAD-redrawn version at 36 inch span, for brushless electric power.

Quote: " Morning bud... here you go, I had several requests for these plans on RC Group, so I annotated and printed them. The .STL files are included here.

I started with the general proportions of the original aircraft and developed the drawings myself. I then changed the thicknesses of almost each piece, Changed the airfoil to a 9% Joukowski, changed the chord from 10 to 11.25, changed the span from 50 to 37.5, and then cut the whole thing out on my CNC machine. Instead of a solid wing core, it's a standard built up with an I-section for the main spar. Fuselage was revised to accommodate the electrics...and I built it as light as practical. Hence the modest wing loading.

To be honest, the whole thing was designed and built around that little 2840-1800 kV motor and my lack of hangar space for a 51" wing. With the price and scarcity of balsa, I'm building smaller than I used to. I tried to build as light as I could and maintain structural integrity.

Fuselage is 1/8", formers are 1/8 light ply. Wing has 3/32 ribs, 1/4" LE, 1/8 ply spar caps, and 1/16 ply web. Feathers are 3/16. Wing sheeting is 1/16.

Final configuration: 2840-1800kV Prop Drive, 40 A ESC, 6x4 APC-E, TowerPro MG92B metal gear digital servos, 2200mah 50C 4S battery. AUW 38.5 oz. (1092 gr), 13.21 oz/sq.ft. Power to weight = 440W/2.41=182.5 W/lb. Thrust to Weight = 1.31 (eCalc) Estimated level flight speed according to eCalc is ~96mph.

All drawings are printed on 36x48 (Arch E) size paper. The 2-View is plotted to fit and is not to scale. The other 3 sheets are at 1" = 1" Scale.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
