How does one say "tail wheel" in Slovenian?
Miguel - 08/08/2023
Acording to "Pons Dictionary" : I tried it with the german word "Heckrad" and found "Zadnje kolo"
Many greetings...

Hi all, I built a Sig Rascal from the 049 gas kit, 49" span. Flies well with a TT07 (same power as an 049, 15000 rpm on a 6x4 prop). I thought I ought to mention a couple of things that might help anyone building from the plan (or the kit for that matter), gas or electric. The eliptical wing has built in washout to prevent tip stalling - I recommend doing this (you can sort of see it in my photo I'll send in a mo. I would avoid having the tailwheel mounted on the rudder, it can pull out the hinges when dragging in sand or a crack in the takeoff strip; which is very disconcerting even if the top hinge stays in place- That happened to me twice! I now use a tailskid mounted the rear fuselage (steers well enough for takeoff.. btw ground looping can be a bother)
Finally the fin is a bit weak, be sure to use hard strip or make from sheet, and secure well. It doesn't need ailerons even tho there is not much dihedral; it would be nice to have ailerons bit it is not essential because rudder control is nice and positive (best not to bank more than 80 degrees thi, you lose hight quickly that way, and the passengers start complaining...)
Mine is a bit overweight mainly due to the messed up finish , but it just flys a bit faster. If built with modern electric, lighter radio and lighter finish than mine I am sure it would be as easy to fly as a trainer.

Hello Mary, here are a couple of pics [003, 004] of my Sig Rascal, of which your plan is a clone, I posted a comment just now. I built mine from the "gas" kit long long ago (2016) and it is a veteran of many flights. I forgot to mention that my plane is plenty strong enough despite being overweight, never crashed and no repairs needed (apart from the bits of undercarriage fairing). Also I should have mentioned that converting an electric version as per oz14727 to glow power would not be difficult. Then I noticed that the plan shows a structure based on laser cut liteply(?), totally different from the more conventional Sig kit - but it would not be difficult for an moderately experienced builder to use ordinary balsa formers and ribs using this plan; looking at similar plans on your website to get ideas on how to do; and that is a very useful thing, having access to all those plans! A godsend to all us oldschool builders (ok, old builders..)
much appreciated!

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
