Hello, The AW3 was not rudder-only. It was flown by its designer André Wastable as early as 1952 with a home-made 6-channel reed radio for control of the rudder, elevator and throttle. The first attached photo [pic 003] is of an example I saw fly at the Saint-André airfield in 1965. Next attached is the scan of the cover my tattered example of the February 1954 Model Aicraft magazine showing André Wastable with his AW-3 and his wife holding the control box [pic 004]. Additionally the cover story inside the same magazine, and finally a 3-view from Le Modèle réduit d'Avion (MRA) issue September 1952 [pic 006], where it is noted that the AW-3 was also called Thunderhead. Thanks again for all the good work. Best modelling regards,

Dear M. Jean-Marie Piednoir, I allow myself to point out that you made a mistake on the first name of M. Wastable. You probably wanted to refer to Albert, and not André, his brother, who lived in Montluçon (he was my grandfather). Anyway, thanks for your contribution.

Indeed, it is Albert Wastable and his wife Blanche, my uncle and aunt. André was my father. Thank you for these documents, it reminds me of when we went to meet him on the airfield in Moulins.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
