About this Plan

Dynaflite Super Decathlon. Radio control sport-scale model. Wingspan 89 in. IMAA-legal aerobatic trainer.

Quote: "The Super Decathlon is a Fun Scale model of a truly classic aerobatic aircraft. It has the presence that only a big model can deliver. The full-scale Super Decathlon is a basic aerobatic aircraft capable of spins, loops, rolls, Immelmanns, split S’s, hammerheads and basic inverted flight.

Super Decathlons have been the choice for basic aerobatics in the US for the past twenty-five years. One of the things that made this plane so popular was the fact that it was one of the easiest landing taildraggers ever made. The Dynaflite Super Decathlon has the great landing habits of the full-scale plane, with more aerobatic potential.

The two-piece wing means transporting this 89 in span model can be done in any vehicle which can hold the manageable 67 in fuselage.

The big wing and strong structure of the Dynaflite Super Decathlon allows for an engine range from the 1.08 2-stroke all the way up to the 2.1 gas engines. We do recommend flying wires on the tail if you are using an engine at the larger end of the recommended range.

At Dynaflite, we take pride in offering kits that are simple and straightforward to build and provide value for your modeling dollar. Because of the size and cost of this model, we assume you have built several models and have a general working knowledge of modeling and its terms. If you HAVE NOT built and flown several kits, we strongly recommend you back up and get some experience before beginning this kit..."

ScaleType: This (oz14573) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Champion_Decathlon
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Hello, unfortunately from what I see this project is missing a sheet, it would be interesting if it were possible to integrate it, as long as I'm not wrong
Thanks and good flights

Can you elaborate a bit on which sheet you believe is missing? I downloaded the plan and got one sheet for the fuse, stab/fin and another for the wing.

It is a plan from a kit. Looks complete to me. Parts ID page is in the manual on p5.
Alex - 24/05/2023
I have this kit. There are 3 plan sheets and the left wing panel is included.
Duane - 25/05/2023
Duane, thanks for the info. Sounds to me like you want to kindly cooperate with the Outerzone community by supplying that missing left wing sheet. Just go to your nearest Kinko, Office Depot, etc., scan the sheet onto your pen drive and send the file to admin@outerzone.co.uk We all appreciate your help!

Here are a couple of pix of my Dynaflite Super Decathlon, outfitted with a Super Tigre 2500 engine [main pic, 011]. This was back about 2010. Easy to build. But major discrepancy in plans for fuselage width between top view and built up bulkhead diagrams. Must check and cross check all dimensions prior to assembling parts. Felt heavy and ponderous in the air. Neither nimble nor agile. As many found, stock landing gear extremely weak. Cheers,

I checked the plans and they clearly state sheet 2 of 3 and 3 of 3 respectively from what is shown. Has anybody contributed the first sheet? If so could the complete set be posted please?
Tom - 05/11/2024
This plan is complete. The first page should be split in two pieces. If you look closely on the bottom left side it said page 1 of 3.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
