Quote: "Pursuit KFM3 Foamie, by Bill Bowne.
The Pursuit (so-named as I painted it in Pre-WWII US Army pursuit plane colors) was a test bed for the KFM3 airfoil. As such, it was very successful and showed the KfM3 airfoil has a lot of promise. Unfortunately, hardware failure cost us the model after only a handful of flights, but we will continue to pursue the KfM3 airfoil
The Pursuit was built from 6mm Model Plane Foam (MPF) and 1/4 in sheets of pink house insulation foam (HIF, hot-wired from much thicker sheets). Incidentally, it was MPF’s owner, Mike Springer, who provided me with the technique of making a KfM3 airfoil by bending MPF. I was very happy with how the MPF folded to make the airfoil, much better than the more brittle HIF.
I used Foam-Tack/Foam Cure and clear Gorilla Glue for most construction, When I needed a strong filler, I mixed microballoons with clear Gorilla Glue; where filler is just 'for show', I used cheap spackle (Dollar Store).
I didn’t use CA in the model. CA tends to cure to a brittle bond and won’t flex with the foam the way the foam glues do. I DID use CA hinges, though, but I installed them with clear Gorilla Glue, not CA.
I used a high Kv motor (2200 Kv) so I could get a higher pitch speed on a 2S lipo. By sticking with a 2S pack, I could then use 4 servos on an ordinary ESC, without risking a receiver brownout, whilst still using short pushrods to the unstiffened ailerons..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
