Vought OS2U Kingfisher (oz14464)
About this Plan
Vought OS2U Kingfisher. Radio control scale model for electric power. Wingspan 36 in, wing area 252 sq in.
Direct submission to Outerzone.
Quote: "I drew this OS2U-1 Kingfisher from a 3-view I downloaded from Chance-Vought's web site. The pre-WWII color scheme is from a bird attached to the USS Pennsylvania.
Structure is balsa and light ply, covered with document lamination film and painted with several different paints. The pilot and the turtledeck behind him are foam, and they come out as a unit to change batteries and access the radio. The base coat is Pactra flat spray light grey enamel, the yellow and red are Tamiya flat acylics, and the blue is Apple Barrel (!) acrylic. I did the markings on stickybacked transparent labels, then painted in the details (except for the stars-and-meatballs; those are all laser printer). The dummy engine and instrument panel were printed onto laser labels, which were then glued to a grey and white painted acetate.
I did stretch the nose a bit, to make it less likely to be tail heavy, and I did adjust some other proportions. Wing area is 252 sq inches and RTF weight is 17 ounces. Power is a Skatty XT450 brushless outrunner, powered by a 3S1320 lipo battery.
I built the fuselage on a jig, made from two parallel music wire rods (waxed, to avoid sticking). Jig panels are tack-glued to bulkheads, then carefully cut out after longerons are done. The tail cone is foam, as is the gun ring (cut from a foam coffee cup!).
The landing gear wires plugged into tubes sewn & glued to bulkheads and weren't CA'd in until after the model is covered (only the front struts are real, the aft struts are actually elastic thread). The rudder was controlled by a pull-pull, using braided fishing line and bent wire ends, with 'T' shape rudder end soldered from brass and music wire.
The model was very tame and an easy flier, but I did have trouble with the ailerons not centering due to the cable loosening. So, I pulled out the gear and retired the model as a display item."

ScaleType: This (oz14464) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vought_OS2U_Kingfisher
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
