About this Plan

Junkers CLI Profile. Radio control profile scale model, for electric power. Wingspan 31.4 in, wing area 180- sq in. Foam construction.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "I did the Junkers to try the KFm2 airfoil, using 6mm Model Plane Foam (MPF). In a few places, I used bits of thinner foam as fillers, doors, and so on. The spar is 1 x 6 mm carbon fibre, all hinging is with Blenderm tape. Power is supplied by a 1700 Kv 'Blue Wonder' motor, turning an APC 7X4E. Electricity comes from a 3S350 lipo, via a 10 (or 12) amp ESC. Rudder and Elevator servos are Turnigy XT500’s, whilst the Aileron servo is an XT900.

Glues used: Clear (NON-Foaming) Gorilla Glue (GG), thin CA, and Foam-Cure/Foam-Tac.

Wing: CA the spars together with the 1/16” joiner. On a jigged surface (I use two flat boards, hinged together and covered with plastic sandwich wrap, aka 'Saran' wrap), glue the wing panels together and Gorilla Glue the spar into the wing. When cured, clear Gorilla Glue the top LE panels to the bottom. When that’s cured, pull the panels off the jig, sand in the airfoil. Cut out ailerons and bevel aileron leading edges (LEs). Note that ‘pointy end’ of bevel is on top! GG the control horns into the ailerons. When dry, cut slots for the aileron servo and mounting blocks.

Fuselage: Taper sand rears of outermost side panels – much easier now than later! Laminate fuse bits with clear GG, then let cure. I used a small paint roller to apply the GG over the cut-outs, to avoid glue building up in them (remember, you’ll be fishing servo wires through those channels!). When cured, sand the gunner’s pit, motor, and other details in using emery boards, etc.

Tail feathers: Sand LE’s round, don’t bother tapering anything else. Do bevel the rudder and elevator LE’s, keeping close attention to the sides the hinges will be on. GG the control horns into place..."

    ScaleType: This (oz14447) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

    If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
    ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junkers_CL.I
    Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
    For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
