About this Plan

Mighty Multi. Control line competition model.

Quote: "Mighty Multi: a plane for the HIAA-AYSC events.

The model presented here is the happy compromise of all the factors involved in 'Multi' competition. It has a profile fuselage, sheet balsa tails and lightweight built-up wing. Tricycle gear is used for good ground handling characteristics. Sidewinder .15 engine mounting makes starting easy and tandem tank mount aids streamlining. Wing span is 31-3/4 inches and length is 24-5/8 inches, well within the proposed specification limits.

Construction can be started with the fuselage. Select hard 1/2 in sheet, transfer the profile outline from the plan and cut to shape. The bottom edge is flat with notches for stabilizer and wing. Next cut the two 3/32 plywood doublers for the nose section to shape. Note that cut-out for engine is only made in right side doubler and the 1/2 in sheet. Cut width to clear your particular engine crankcase.

Now glue doublers to fuselage. Use white glue, clamp firmly and let dry overnight. Drive several small brads through plywood and balsa to hold alignment while clamped. These can be withdrawn after glue dries.

While glue is drying, other parts can be made. Cut dummy canopy to shape. Cut dorsal fin and rudder from 3/16 sheet. These can be glued to fuselage after clamps are removed. Horizontal tail is also 3/16 sheet. Cut to outline and round off outer edges. Join stabilizer and elevator with fabric 'Z' hinges. Install control horn along with hinges at center.

Now prepare wing parts. All wing ribs are cut from 3/32 sheet, sixteen are required. The four ribs at center section are notched for hardwood strips for landing gear mounting. The two centermost ribs have tops reduced in height 1/2 in for the sheet planking. Since the wing has a symmetrical airfoil it will be necessary to block leading and trailing edges up level with your building board..."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
