About this Plan

Chianti. Radio control sport model, for electric power. Wingspan 44.25 in, wing area 360 sq in. Foam construction.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "Micki and I were very pleased with our Sequel model (which will be published later, despite being done earlier!) so I thought I’d make a break from our usual shoulder-winged models and do something low-winged.

So, I opened up a copy of the Sequel plans and started moving things around. I moved the wind to the bottom of the fuselage, straightened out the fuselage top, and smoothed the forward fuselage bottom. Aft from the wing TE, I kept everything the same – why mess with what works?

The Chianti (yes, I like dry, red wine!) has nearly the same wing as does the Sequel. The aileron servo and linkage is on the top vice the bottom, the dihedral (and dowel brace!) is greater, there are LG torque blocks, and the wing tips are simpler.

For power, I used the same version Turnigy 1100 Kv motor, 30 amp ESC, and 3S2200 lipos (Makes maintaining 'the Fleet' easier when one standardizes!). I did use a 3-bladed prop, mainly because I had one sitting around, idle.

As with the Sequel, just about all the foam used is pink house insulation foam, which I’ve hot-wired to ¼” thickness. There are two small bits of green 1/8” snuck into the rudder, though. The wings are covered with brown parcel wrapping paper (not the heavier ‘paper bag’ paper), whilst the ailerons and the rest of the model are covered with blank newspaper. Please refer to the 'Generic Foam and Paper Construction' notes for details on covering models like the Chianti.

I prefer to make a kit of parts before I start building, so, starting with that, let’s take a walk through building a Chianti..."

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
