About this Plan

Edge 540 Hybrid. Radio control sport aerobatic model. WIngspan 92 in, wing area 1868 sq in, for 50 - 70 cc engines.

Quote: "Hybrid Edge 540 Fun Fly. In our continuing effort to bring the ultimate in performance to our customers, we have blown away the existing envelope of traditional fun fly planes by merging the aerodynamic characteristics of our popular profiles with that of traditional giant scale aircraft.

Engines and Propellors: The recommended engine range for the Hybrid Profile Edge 540 is a 40 - 60 cc gasoline engine. The Hybrid Profile was designed to use low pitch props. What you need is air flow and vertical performance, not straight-line speed. We recommend using the lowest pitch, highest diameter propeller you can find for your particular engine. The use of high pitch props can cause air 'cavitation' around the prop blades during hovering or slow vertical maneuvers. Air cavitation may sound neat but it's not what you want because the prop is no longer biting into 'clean air' and you may lose altitude very quickly; so be wise when selecting your prop...""

Quote: "This model is referred to as a 'hybrid' because it's a cross between a profile and full fuselage. It was typically powered with a 50cc engine. Ohio Model Planes changed ownership around 2013 and the current owners never bought the rights to this airplane. I tried reaching out to the original company owners but they have long since left the modeling community and don't respond to my messages.
There are no templates provided. The only real challenge is coming up with all the wing rib shapes as the wing tapers in chord and thickness but only the root rib is visible on the plans. Easily solved by scaling the root airfoil until it matches the chord at the various rib stations on the plan.
Using the Wayback machine I've provided a link to the old info page for this model, see https://web.archive.org/web/20070206..."

Update 21/10/2023: Added ribs drawing, thanks to Pablo Oliveros.

Quote: "Good morning, thanks to my friend William Morillo I send to you the ribs of the wings. Thanks again for this beatiful site. Pablo"

Hi, This plane had wing jigs to align the dihedral, do you have drawings or dimensions for those?

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
