Spad XIII C1 (oz14340)
About this Plan
Spad XIII C1. Radio control scale model WWI biplane fighter. Scale is 1/5.
Quote: "A 1/5 scale SPAD XIII C1 of the 22nd Aero Squadron, American Army, 1918. By Bob Rich.
One of my favourite aircraft has been the WWI SPAD fighter. It's the right kind or airplane, two wings, wing struts, and thw ind whistling through the wires. All that good stuff that makes for real airplanes. I have made three SPADs, two VII's and one XIII in different scales and they have all flown well.
This SPAD is 1/5 scale, giving it a 63 inch wingspan, large enough to add whatever details yopu may want to put on. The shape and outline are scale, so if you are making yours for competition, select your prototype and copy it as to the details and finish colors. In researching the SPAD I have found that many of the details and colr schemes were different on each airplane shown.
I used the WA Wylam drawings as the main source for the dimensions and outline.
I would have preferred to use a 4-stroke engine, but the size wouldn't allow the engine to be hidden inside the cowl. I used a Fox .74 and it has worked out well..."

Scan by MarkD, cleanup by Circlip.
Update 25/1/2023: Added alternate plan, thanks to Pit. This is the same as the scan hosted at David Terrell's page at: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=39623093&postcount=398 and to be honest there is not much to choose between the two. Pit's is slightly lighter overall, the MarkD scan is darker, which helps in some areas. Take your pick :)

ScaleType: This (oz14340) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPAD_S.XIII
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.
Corrections? Use the correction form to tell us the new/better ScaleType link we should be using. Thanks.

A remarkable plan, like all Bob Rich did. Thanks to the person who cleaned this, it couldn't have been easy with all that density!Miguel - 27/01/2023

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
